The Institute is run by a Secretariat, which has a work force of twelve members of staff.

CS. Obare Nyaega - Chief Executive Officer

CS Obare Naega has over 17 years of work experience, having worked for various organisations

at various capacities relating to governance, financial control, strategy and leadership. Previously,

he has worked for SkillShare Services as Managing Partner, at MTN Business as the Quality

Management Representative (QMR) and Ag. Finance Manager and at Strathmore University. 


As a scholar, he has published in the European Journal of Business and Management, an international

journal for academic publications-ISSN 2222-1905 (Paper) ISSN 2222-2839 (Online). He Lectures/has

lectured at KCA University, Maseno University, Management University of Africa, MKU among others. 


Currently, he is pursuing a PhD and LLB both at the University of Nairobi (UoN). He holds a PMD

(Program for Management Development) jointly by SBS Kenya & GIBS University of Pretoria South

Africa,  a Master of Science (MSc)  in Finance from UoN, a Bachelor of Commerce (Double Major), 

1st Class Honours from Strathmore University. He is a Certified Secretary (CS), Certified Public

Accountant (CPA), a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), a trained ISO 9001:2015 internal

auditor and a trained trainer on Crucial Conversations by VitalSmarts USA.


CPA Obare is a Council member at the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK)

where he Chairs the Research and Development Committee. He was awarded a commendation in 2014.


He is a facilitator with the Man Enough Program, a sponsor to the Child Fund and mentors the youth and



He is blessed with a wonderful family.


CS. Jeremiah N. Karanja - Head of Department, Professional Services 

CS. Jeremiah N. Karanja is a Certified Secretary, Human Resource Professional, Accredited

Governance auditor, Accredited Trainer of Trainers, Governance Advisor and Board Evaluation

Consultant. He has extensive experience in consultancy and management spanning over 9



CS. Karanja is currently undertaking his PHD studies in Leadership and Governance at the

Jomo Kenyatta University of Science and Technology; is a holder of a Master of Business

Administration (Strategic Management) from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor of

Arts degree in Political Science, Public Administration & Communication. He is a member

of both the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya (ICPSK) and Institute of

Human Resource Management of Kenya (IHRM-K).


Mr. Tobias Mutua - Head of Finance and Support Services

Tobias has worked for over 15 years specializing in finance and accounting in the financial sector.

Prior to joining ICPSK, he had served as the Finance and Administration Manager at Caritas MFB

and also at FEP Group of Companies. He commenced his career with SMEP Micro Finance Bank

rising through the ranks to become the Chief Accountant.

Tobias is widely experienced in corporate governance, strategic planning, process re-design for

operational efficiency, cost management as well as financial management. He has an outstanding

track record in coaching and developing high performance teams.

He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree (Accounting and Finance) with CPA (K)

and a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK).

He joined the Institute in October 2017 as the Head of Finance and Support Services.





Mr. Gilbert Kiprono - Research and Business Development Manager

Gilbert Kiprono is a researcher and Economist with over 5 years’ experience in Research

and Policy, having worked in both private and public sectors. He previously served as

Assistant Manager, Trade Research and Policy at the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce

and Industry, Researcher at Export Promotion Council and Research Analyst in a consultancy

firm. He contributed towards development of the Kenya Investment Policy and National

Export Development Strategy.

Mr. Kiprono has Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Mathematics (University of Nairobi).

He has completed M.A. in Economic Policy Management at the University of Nairobi. He is also

trained on Enterprise Development under Knowledge Co-creation program offered by Japan

International Cooperation Agency and Pacific Exchange Resource Center (Japan).
